Final Reflection:
After retracing my steps through everything that I have compiled in my portfolio, I feel that ENC 2135 has been one of the most helpful English courses I have ever taken thanks to Mat. Before entering this course, I was very confident in my technical writing skills having worked hard at improving in high school and even tutoring students in this type of writing by the end of my senior year. I even had in my head that I had a perfect formula that would work for relatively any essay with modifications of course. However, when we started writing in this course, I was actually a little nervous. The projects and blogs we were doing challenged me to write in a different way. Especially, I found Project 2, the personal narrative, to be particularly difficult and different to me. However, I feel that this was a great experience and really helped me expand my writing to include more creative expansions. I am glad that I was able to eventually incorporate my style from before to include more unique pieces that would reflect my writing style. I am very thankful that Mat took the time to sit down with each of us multiple times to review and advice us. He really listened to what we were trying to achieve and guided us in a way that I haven’t had before in an English course. Because of this, I feel that my writing has really grown, and my understanding of what genres are and how they can be used has been solidified. I feel more confident in my ability to incorporate more interesting genres and sources into papers for the future. Similarly, for the future, it will be very useful for me to know how to navigate the FSU library and databases. I have already used this skill for other classes. I am glad we took a day to learn how to do this practical skill. I am also really glad that we learned how to use Wix for our website blog portfolios. I feel that it was also an important skill to learn how to create professional looking websites or blogs for different purposes especially with Project 3 with the intention of reaching an audience with our page. I enjoyed learning how to create a website like this and how to make it more creative and personal with different additions. I am glad that through Project 3 we learned how to do more than just create blogs but expanded this to include more interesting pages with better themes and different genres. Similarly, in terms of the blogs that we reviewed, I found them all to be helpful references for writing as well as engaging to learn from. Thank you for a great semester Mat!
