Blog Post #6 Chapter 7

Chapter 7 of the “Bedford Book of Genres” on Integrating and Documenting sources was a very helpful follow-up to our last class where we learned how to find proper sources for our papers and ended with a brief overview of the different types of citations. I appreciate that chapter 7 begins by clarifying that integration of sources does not mean that we can just drop a quote in our argument but rather is use them in our own way to model our thoughts in our writing. I think that its also important to work it in to your argument in a way ties it into your next thoughts as well. I am glad that this chapter distinguished that difference between paraphrasing and summarizing. It was also important to review which parts of the quote are relative evidence that actually make a “good” quote and strengthen your argument. The last part of the chapter was probably the most helpful as it showed how to cite all kinds of different texts, and I am sure it will make a very useful reference guide in the future.
